It is not uncommon to get at least a few snow showers on a couple of days each October in north central Wisconsin.  After all, we average just over 1 inch of snow in Wausau for October.

However, there have been several significant October snowfalls in Wausau over the years.

  • 9.8″   October 10th, 1990
  • 7.8″   October 21st, 2002
  • 4.8″   October 24th, 1933
  • 4.0″   October 19th, 1986
  • 3.0″   Various dates in the following years:  1905, 1906, 1909,  1939,

It is rather curious that one decade (the first decade of the 1900s), produced 3 days with 3 inches of snow.

Here are the October total monthly snowfall record holders for Wausau.

  • 8.9″ in 2002
  • 8.3″ in 1917

So the big question is…are you looking forward to that first snowfall?
