Could we set a February snowfall record?

February 9, 2019 0 Comments

There has been a good amount of snow as you know over the past few weeks, especially compared to earlier in the winter.  But how is this month’s snow stacking up against the snowiest on record for Wausau.  Well, through February 9th Wausau has received 13.8 inches of snow.  That is already above the normal amount we get for the whole month.  However we have a long ways to go to reach all-time February snow status.

As you see, the greatest monthly snowfall for February in Wausau is 34.5 inches, set way back in 1945.  Basically the top ten Februarys all accumulated at least 20″ of snow.   I do think we will easily get into the top ten with February 2019.  We have a good chance of picking up at least 12 to 15 inches of snow this week.  That will put our total for the month into the 25 inch plus range.  So with over ten days left late in the month after that point, it would just take one good storm to even push us to number one!  Well there is something to keep your interest high.

Stay tuned and I hope you can find good ways to enjoy all this snow.
